 Phil SmithHead Coach - LakevilleEmail
Phil has been the Head
Coach of the STORM since the fall of 2002. In January of 2006, he
took over as the president of the non-profit. He primarily works
with the SR/JR groups in Lakeville. Phil serves as a
volunteer member of Minnesota Swimming Inc, the governing body of
Storm, as the Technical Chair and is also involved with the local
ASCA swim chapter. As an athlete, Phil was an All State
athlete six times in high school, he ran cross country and track at
the University of Minnesota, and was an All American Triathlete in
the summer of 2004.
 Chuck SmithHead Coach - Prior LakeEmail
Chuck has been with the
club since 2003 and the head coach of the Prior Lake offerings
since the winter of ‘06. He also became the vice-president of
the STORM non-profit in the winter of 2006. Longtime athlete, he
was also a six-time All State performer in high school, a letter
winner at the U of M for cross country, and an All American
Triathlete the summer of 2004. Chuck was also a professional
triathlete during the summer of 2005 and placed 27th at the U.S.
National Championships.
 Claire BodnarukCoachEmail
Claire started age group
swimming at the age of 11, continuing through high school as team
captain. Summers were spent life guarding and teaching swim
lessons. As a member of the Lady Vols Swimming Team at the
University of Tennessee in 1981 and 1982, Claire's summers were
spent coaching age group swimming and teaching swim lessons.
Graduating with a BS degree in Communications, Claire spent the
next 13 years working in the field of Broadcast Production and
Advertising. Claire is married and has two daughters, Julia and
Alena, who swim for STORM. While living in Australia, Claire taught
swimming lessons through the Austswim Certification program. She
currently has her Coaches Certification with USA Swimming and
ASCS.
 Julie StewartAge Group 1,2 & Intermediate Group CoachEmail
Julie recently moved from
Waddy, Kentucky to Prior Lake, Minnesota. She is a life-long
swimmer who coached for several years in Kentucky and is continuing
with the passion she has found for coaching here in Minnesota. She
primarily works with the IG/AG1,2 teams in Prior
Lake.
 Jason DuganAge Group 1,2 & Intermediate Group CoachEmail
Jason began swimming
competitively at the age of eight in Iowa and continued throughout
college. Jason was a team captain and three year letter winner at
the University of Northern Iowa. His specialty was long distance
freestyle. In addition to swimming competitively, Jason was an age
group swimming coach and instructor throughout his summers in
college. He has three sons, Max, Owen, and Gavin. Max has been
swimming with STORM since Fall of 2006.
 Peter SchrockCoachEmail
Peter owns and operates
the Family Swim School located in Lakeville and Eagan, Minnesota.
He has coached and assisted many high school and college programs
around the country for many years. He will be assisting the team by
conducting Technique Nights, focusing on the technique for specfic
strokes and turns. He also has a daughter, Carrie, who swims for
STORM.
 Maggie McMahonAge Group 1,2 & Intermediate Group CoachEmail
Maggie, just as many of
her swimmers, started swimming at a young age and joined the
Lakeville club when in third grade. Maggie swam with the club
through the next eight years, swimming at many of the same meets
that STORM swimmers compete in today. She also swam for the
Lakeville High School varsity team where she focused on distances
like the 500 free - her favorite event. Maggie graduated from high
school in 2003 and then attended college at the University of Iowa.
Maggie now works as a catering coordinator for a family business in
Maple Grove. She lives in Lakeville where she contemplates what her
next step in life will be. She is certain that she will continue to
coach her wonderful swimmers at STORM.
 Dan LindstromAge Group 1,2 & Intermediate Group CoachEmail
Coach Dan Lindstrom comes
to the South Metro STORM after spending five years with the
Monticello Swim Club. Lindstrom grew up in Scandia, Minnesota and
began his swimming career at age six with the Forest Lake Flyers,
continuing in high school with Forest Lake. He then moved on to
Gustavus Adolphus College for four years where he was captain,
helping GAC to three conference titles. Lindstrom has a strong
belief in technique training and is looking forward to the
opportunity to coach the athletes of the South Metro STORM swim
club. When Lindstrom is not coaching, he can be found at his
family's cabin on Lake Vermilion, at Wild games and snowboarding.
Lindstrom lives in St. Paul.
 Craig BraunIntermediate Group CoachEmail
Craig swam in high school
and at Central Michigan University. While in college, he started
coaching during the summer for his city program. Since then, he has
coached in Ohio, Texas, and Michigan, working both with school and
age group programs. His last position was as head coach for 13
years in Michigan for a YMCA/USA program. After he moved to
Minnesota, his desire and love for coaching lead him to the STORM
program. He is married to Susan, and they have three grown
children.
 Jen IrvingAssistant Coach - LakevilleEmail
Jen joined STORM as an
assistant coach in May 2009. She joined the coaching staff after
working as a Red Cross swim instructor in Northfield, MN and
teaching private swimming lessons. Jen was a highly decorated high
school swimmer (and cross country runner) in Texas from 1995-1999.
She was a three time all conference (ODAC) swimmer, while swimming
at Washington and Lee University (NCAA Division III) and was also a
member of the W&L’s varsity cross country team. Jen is
fluent in Spanish and loves traveling, especially in Central and
South America where she conducted field resersch on sustainable
agriculture and forestry. In addition to coaching with STORM, Jen
works part time for Carver County doing water quality and
environmental monitoring. In her free time, Jen enjoys exploring
the great outdoors, tending her garden, and watching over one very
large lab and two mischievous cats.
