Fall 2010
Greetings,
It came as no shock to me when our team placed 5th (1st in the AA Division) in the Long Course State
Meet in Minneapolis, MN and 2nd in the Central Zones meets held in Bismarck, ND, but what did shock me was we set 99 team records in the process! I have known for quite some time that our team was on the cusp of breaking out into one of the elite teams in the state and I am pleased that it happened as soon as it did. I look forward to seeing us continue to move ahead not only in our state rankings, but also in our ability to foster an environment where all feel welcome to attend.
As you are likely aware we are starting up the Fall Session on Sept 7th, 2010, we wish the girls
departing to their HS seasons good luck and welcome back the boys who are hoping to help build their
respective HS teams in the winter session. This will also mark the hiring of two new coaches to the Storm; we are currently interviewing prospects and hope to make concrete decisions in the near future.
The Lakeville Community Education has informed us that starting in December of 2010, our pool
rental rates will double from $10.00 per hour to $20.00 per hour in an attempt to help level out the general fund. This will bring us to the same rental that we are paying in Prior Lake. Our membership will be affected as this will increase our pool rental operating costs by $8,000.00-10,000.00 on a yearly basis. While we have found this places us more in line with other Non-Profits rental costs in the State of MN, it is not something that has been figured into current Storm Costs. With around 1000 seasonal swimmers the increase on our seasonal rate will be minimal. With that said we are excited by the prospects of welcoming McGuire Middle School back into one of our pool we can utilize. The renovations are nearly complete and with this will provide a more stable learning environment for our swimmers.
I have been thinking quite a lot about the success that our team has enjoyed, and a quote that I heard the other day put it right into context. “Good is the enemy of great”. We had a good year, but I do not anyone to think that this is the limit that we can achieve, lets continue to evaluate our goals and move this program forward into a great team!
Sincerely,
Phil Smith
