Contagious Behavior
I’ve always been a believer that winning (and success) is contagious. This year was proof of that in my eyes. At the beginning of the spring Phil and I were talking about how well things were going with the club and even spent some time speculating about how well we could do during the season. We decided to enlist the help of our older swimmers to set a positive tone (hard work, supportive leadership and encouragement at meets were some of our objectives) and we hoped for the best.
It wasn’t long until we saw those hopes turn into reality. You could see the transformation at the very
smallest levels: getting in the water on time, encouraging teammates during challenging sets and cheering our you know what’s off at every meet (by the way it’s not close, we have the most team spirit). You could also see it behind the blocks and in the pool. We had confidence and a little swagger in our steps and it seemed we were always ready to race.
Now, you may think I’m talking only about our state level kids; well that’s not true… I saw this behavior at
every meet I went to and within every age group.
When you put in the time and work it’s nice to have it pay off. It makes it even nicer when a friend was
with you every step of the way to experience the ups and downs with you. Congratulations Storm Swimmers! You made us all proud this summer.
